S32E11: The God Complex
Not a bad episode, although I was a bit irritated by the Curse of Fenric ripoff. Sylvester McCoy was far more convincing.

Haven't seen it yet-not until BBC America tonight-but the God Complex? This is a psychological analysis of the Doctor, then?

In a double entendre, yes. Meh. Filler ep until the ending, though the bit about "I'm not talking about myself" was a nice tie-in to the theme of the season. A bit ham-handed in the application of the main device - yes we get it, nightmare angles = creepy, now give it a rest - but the ending was a puller if wrapped up tritely.RK_Striker_JK_5 wrote:Haven't seen it yet-not until BBC America tonight-but the God Complex? Of note to BBC America viewers might be the advertisement for DW mini-action figures.

Oh, god it is just so weird seeing Who action figures advertised like that! Especially since I just bought a Leela action figure and the Fourth's sonic screwdriver!

I notice that Underground toys also sells a plush TARDIS with lights and sounds.

That might be a good Christmas gift for my friend...Mikey wrote:I notice that Underground toys also sells a plush TARDIS with lights and sounds.
Anyway, episode! Just... didn't feel it, to be honest. So, it was a distant cousin of the Nimon, then? As for leaving Amy and Rory behind... they'll be back. Kinda have to, since Karen's signed on for the next series.

EDIT:
And as for the Seventh doing stuff better? Sylvester McCoy reading the Pandorica Opens speech.

That was...abrupt. If the show runners wanted to surprise us, well it worked on one viewer. Plus why not say "goodbye" to Rory?

Because as much as he's become a character rather than just attached comic relief, Rory is still just an also-ran in the Doctor's mind.Nutso wrote:That was...abrupt. If the show runners wanted to surprise us, well it worked on one viewer. Plus why not say "goodbye" to Rory?

Rory is the butt monkey of the series. He's Mickey... well-executed.

On the contrary, I think Darvill's done a fantastic job of turning from Mickey into a relevant, passably-deep character. The only issue is that Rory hasn't become anything more than Amy's camp follower in the Doctor's mind.
