Re: New series starts toinght
I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I was a bit iffy at first. The humour seemed to be trying to hard and the food bit was meh and went on for a bit too long. Once the story in proper started it got very good. An interesting and original villain, a clear threat to the Earth and an inventive solution. All in all, an excellent episode. If Moffat keeps it up like this, we're in for an excellent series.
Amy looks to be a promising companion, the new TARDIS interior looks great, and we have a green sonic screwdriver. I'm still a bit iffy on the new Doctor though, so I'll have to reserve my judgement on him until I've seen a couple more eps. The one thing I did dislike tonight was the new theme song - it just doesn't sound as good as the old ones.

Re: New series starts toinght
As of the titles I wasn't impressed - too chaotic, even by the standards of the last few years. Why can't we go back to the eerie repetitiveness of the original run? I was also hoping to see the Doctor's mug in the titles again.
Smith was good. Not great, but good. Some of his style early on was indistinguishable from Tennant, but changed as the episode progressed leading me to suspect it was deliberate - the Doctor's brain hadn't settled down, so he kept reverting to his previous personality. As for the new bloke, I like him. He's not really violent, but he's a lot more willing to grip the situation if necessary - if someone starts babbling, grab them by the shirt front. Plus calling back the alien battleship for a ticking off.
I don't think we've ever seen the Tardis get quite so badly hammered before, and the fact that he's still having problems suggests that it isn't quite fixed yet. Any bets about how far Amy will miss her wedding by?

Overall not a bad ep - like you pair I thought the credits a bit naff, reminded me of the going through a stargate wormhole.

7 weeks.
One thing though - why did the TARDIS get so wrecked? I don't recall it happening any other time the Doctor regenerated.

He released the energy from the radiation he absorbed before he regenerated I believe.

The Tenth Doctor had been holding back his regeneration for quite some time, possibly making it more explosive when it occurred. Plus one of the arm streamers from the RTD TLRP when straight into the time rotor - that can't have done it any good.Sionnach Glic wrote:One thing though - why did the TARDIS get so wrecked? Saw the twist about her being the the older Amelia coming. And the twist about her being a stripper (kissagram my fanny - what is it with society? You can get eaten alive by a giant bat creature so long as you keep your top on in the process. Cop out).
Looks like it could be a good run. Bit worried about seeing the Weeping Angels in the series previews though, I'm really hoping they don't ruin them like they did the Daleks.

@ Seafort:
Hm, must have missed that bit. Yeah, I can see why that might cause some problems.

Moffat's got a decent track record, unlike RTD in his later series. I'm even looking forward to the Churchill Daleks - hopefully the new era will start the job of fixing them.kostmayer wrote:Looks like it could be a good run. Personally, I prefer this guy to Tennant.
