The Inner Light
I just watched this ep and it has been several years. Looking at it now with a few more years under my belt and I noticed a lot more feeling involved then when I first saw it.
I think it was also good for me to see Picard as not so stuck up and more human. More everyday man trying to deal with the world around him. I also liked seeing him do the one thing he never reached in life, and that was having a family.

Re: The Inner Light
It's one of my absolute favorite episodes. It's both a fascinating premise and very well handled. I'm with you Deep, when I first watched it as a kid I spent most of the episode wondering when something interesting was going to happen but over the years I've grown fonder and fonder of it.
Re: The Inner Light
I firmly agree with both of you, it was an excellent episode, the story wasn't exciting but it was very deep.

And that Ressikan flute rift has always stayed with me...

Re: The Inner Light
Agreed. The best sci-fi eps are the ones in which the actual "sci-fi" aspect is a setting, but not hitting you in the face. This is a well-executed, well-acted example of a human-interest drama, that just happens to involve a Star Trek setting.

Re: The Inner Light
Just like in AGT, this was a story that was character driven story and as you said... merely in a scifi setting. I wish more ep's would be be like this. Yes - it is interesting to reflect on how my interests have matured from when I was 17 to now, 27. I can now more readily see something as 'touching' like this ep, without feeling sissy or something.

Conversely, the worst sci-fi is where the "sci-fi" drives what little human "interaction" there is.Mikey wrote:Agreed. Re: The Inner Light
The fact that the flute carried over into future episodes always impressed me. But I've got to admit, this episode on gets a 4 out 5 with me. It was awfully slow, and while an excellent chance for character development, it just lacked something for me.thelordharry wrote:And that Ressikan flute rift has always stayed with me...

Well, there is that
But mainly I'd say any degree of action.

This might be an episode to suggest to OVEG in case he's sick of looking at crap.
