Heroes of the Space Marines
Just noticed this anthology at the bookstore yesterday, so I picked it up. Some tie-in stories are included for upcoming novels (including Nick Kymes' Salamanders novel - hooray!) but I've only completed one story so far - interestingly enough, based on the title of the book, an Iron Warriors story. Included are stories by Kymes, McNeill, etc. - no Abnett (boo) but no Goto (yay!)
I can't stand nothing dull

The Iron Warriors story is just horrible, you'll get my beef with it after you read it. It has to do with Honsou's warband and his intentions.
The best in the book IMO are the Salamanders story and the Deathwatch one, which is excellent. Renegades is absolute shite though, surprising coming from Gav Thorpe.

I think I follow you. The quality of the writing was decent, though.Cpl Kendall wrote:The Iron Warriors story is just horrible, you'll get my beef with it after you read it. It has to do with Honsou's warband and his intentions.
Halfway through, and I likey.Cpl Kendall wrote:The best in the book IMO are the Salamanders story
Good to hear. AFAIK, the only Deathwatch treatment so far has been Goto's crap-tastic series.Cpl Kendall wrote:and the Deathwatch one, which is excellent.

Honsou stories usually are well written but they always feel "meh" to me. Especially his fixation on fucking over Ventris, "Long War"...what's that again?Mikey wrote:

It's got me excited for the upcoming series, you can never have enough meltas!

I also thought that the introduction of - well, let's just say the big bad - was a little contrived.Cpl Kendall wrote:Honsou stories usually are well written but they always feel "meh" to me. Especially his fixation on f***ing over Ventris, "Long War"...what's that again?
Yeah, I'm a Salamanders fan too.Cpl Kendall wrote:It's got me excited for the upcoming series, you can never have enough meltas!
Just keep telling yourself that.Cpl Kendall wrote:I'm sorry...who?
