Here's how I'd do it:

The ship would be very similar to Graham's pic from page one with a brick hull, a couple nacelles attacked, and surrounded by lasers with a couple nuclear missle tubes. The ships would be primarily built for exploration and science, defence second, lastly would be aesthetics and crew comfort. The NX Class would have been in production for a few years and there would be around 100-120 ships, with Enterprise being the latest and greatest.

The First season would be a what's out there season, it'd be similar to the first season of Enterprise, excpet we wouldn't be species of the week, They'd be moving around encountering the TOS species, but it would be extended interaction. They would also be very bold, failing to recognize territory, because they didn't know about it. There would be no Vulcan star chart or vulcan officers aboard. The Vulcans would be similar in representation to the Andorians in ENT. The final episodes (remember no one episode/location) would be the Enterprise returning to Earth for repairs answering for their actions, and seeing the effects of their exploration on Earth, mostly trade occurring with the various species.

Season Two would be a pre-war season. In the season opener, we'd see the beginnings of a new class of ship much more military minded, designed in responce to the hostility faced by the Enterprise and the other NX ships. Then we go off and have much more exploration, however about half way through it'll start changing over to having them respond to distress calls from colonies and outposts that have been attacked. These outposts are completely destroyed, with no survivors, and there is strange readings around the system. In the Final episode Archer returns to earth again for repairs and we see the first Daedelus Class ship launched.

Season 3 is the Romulan War Part one. The season opener has the Enterprise finally catching a Romulan ship while attacking an outpost, we get to see a small space battle, before the ship cloakes and runs away. This is follwed by reports of an invasion of ships into Earth's space. The Enterprise get's sent to the differnt powers asking for help to engage the Romulans, but they all turn him down, save for maybe a few powers playing the part of the USA at the beginning of WWI/II and selling/"loaning" supplies and ships to them, those that refuse are saying that they should surrender, the Romulans will over power them. In the final few episodes the Enterprise engages in combat with the Romulans, and in the season finally the ship is destroyed

Season 4 is Romulan War Part Two. The Enterprise is launched again, this time as a Daedalus Class. The Enterprise is sent to the front lines to engage the enemy. The whole season for the most part is steady War, we see Enterprise engaging enemy invasions and launching it's own invasions, often returning to earth or some other colony for repairs and hearing about the losses and gains of the War, making it very clear that the Humans are hanging with the Romulans, just barely. The Romulans are much stronger than the federation resource wise, but they can't seem to muster the forces to successfully invade. The Final few weeks, Enterprise takes on an Admiral, and several other officials and the ship is the host of the Federations end of the subspace peace communications.

Season 5 is basicly the foundations of the Federation. Fresh of "winning" the romulan war, as the little powers would see it since the Romulans go into isolation, Earth has some weight to through around, and it does so regarding the internal fueds of some of the other powers. The Klingons are vaugly introduced to the Humans here, we see their ships, not so much of the individual Klingons. We recognize them as hostile, and try to expand and stregnthen ourselves. We also start to sign dietailed alliance pacts with several of the powers (such as Vulcans and Andorians). Season Finalle is the conference for the first formal meeting for the formation of the Federation.

Season 6 I would have as the beginning of the Federation, Starfleet is Chartered, we see the first non-human crew serving on the Enterprise (which continues to missions of exploration) In the Final episode, we see an almost finished ship that has the charicterestic saucer, neck and drive section with the sprouting nacelles (albeit a very rough version).
