Where the tracks are:
You see those three vents under the side armour? There for exhaust, the Chimera and it's variants (along with vehicles like the Salamander and Centaur) have there engines under the tracks on either side.

To make room for all the persons inside.

See, I had assumed it was ducted there from somewhere else. Shit, my internal lay out for my Chimera is totally buggered.

It's actually rather clever, it would act as extra armour for the passengers. Wonder how maintenance is on them.

This is how FG has the internal layout:

Yeah, but the engine in front provides extra armor in the direction you'd expect to be taking shots from. Given that your options are to remove armor or get at them from the troop compartment I'd imagine working on them is a total pain in the ass.

Aye, though it does have decent armour in the front.
There appears to be service hatches on either side near the back.

I'll figure out how to make it work, probably.

Crap, never thought of this before; we're probably going to need an Enginseer.

I can stuff one in my track, have him man the vox or something when needed.

Should probably ride on the ARV but if your cool playing a cogboy then that's err...cool.

Doesn't matter to me. I was kind of thinking about a techpriest character down the road but I'm not picky. Just offering the room if needed.

#1 - roasting infantry by the bucketload is the whole point of a Hellhound. It's not as lopsided as you think if you recall that a) the inferno is a single-shot weapon, and b) to balance things out, I'm basically sitting on a leaky gas tank with a cigar in my mouth.
#2 - Maybe the Chimera really is like a BMP, and there is a height restriction on conscripts.

Heh, maybe it's an Israeli design.

Merkava, engine in the front specifically because of that with the troop compartment at the rear behind everything else.
And the Chimera isn't restricted in height. The damn thing is over 14 feet tall. You could walk right into the troop compartment without stooping over.

Kinda what I was getting at. The Israeli stance is that a good tank crew is more valuable than a good tank.
