The Man has come around to Starfleet. WWE superstar Becky Lynch has officially joined the cast of “Star Trek: Starfleet Academy” on Paramount Plus.
Lynch, who has been on a 200+ day hiatus from WWE, took to X to deliver the news via video.
“You know when you’ve already been champion of the world, there’s only one place to go next, and that’s to the stars,” Lynch said. “I’m so excited to share with all of you that I’m joining ‘Star Trek: Starfleet Academy’ as part of the bridge crew. This has been the most amazing experience, acting alongside just a spectacular cast and crew, and I cannot wait for all of you to check it out when it comes out on Paramount Plus.”

This is one of those mad ideas that has been going around since just after TNG. I'm still unconvinced that it's a good idea. It used to get nicknamed Star Trek 90210, which proves just how long it's lingered.

Wasn't it an idea dating before TNG as well? I kinda remember hearing or reading about it as a proposal like before ST2. I might be wrong. Obviously it couldn't be between ST2-ST4 as that formed a trilogy. ST5 immediately came about from Shatner watching American evangelical TV and Nimoy saying he could direct the next movie. ST1 was just a rollover of a bunch of ideas dating years.IanKennedy wrote: ↑Fri Dec 20, 2024 9:31 pm This is one of those mad ideas that has been going around since just after TNG. Star Trek 2009 was where they went back to that idea. I don't get thd appeal of it but the movie worked out for the most part.
Just reminds me of Roddenberry hanging onto ideas for so long. Whether it was that script he wrote predating TMP or Spock shooting JFK or recycling parts of TMP for TNG.

The idea I read is that this is going to be Star Trek's "Riverdale." I cannot explain that show except that it is a twisted sexed-up version of the Archie comics. Never saw it, just had YouTube explain it to me.IanKennedy wrote: ↑Fri Dec 20, 2024 9:31 pm This is one of those mad ideas that has been going around since just after TNG. These streaming services need programming. Old rejected ideas are going to keep reappearing because new ideas are scary. In fact I have no new ideas for what Star Trek should do, so I can't blame the studios.McAvoy wrote: ↑Sat Dec 21, 2024 1:01 amWasn't it an idea dating before TNG as well? One idea I liked that could work that would be different for Star Trek is maybe do the Starfleet Corps of Engineers like the books. Troubleshooting crew that goes to problem to problem fixing issues. They don't do first contact, diplomatic missions, ferrying or anything like that. But I can see how that would make writing episodes more difficult.Nutso wrote: ↑Sat Dec 21, 2024 1:10 amThese streaming services need programming. Star Trek Firefly? Star Trek Colony World? Star Trek Special Investigation Unit? Star Trek JAG? Star Trek Federation?
I mean I get it, Star Trek relies on exploring new worlds and new civilizations thing. It's just easier.

Re: WWE’s Becky Lynch Announces She Has Joined the Cast of ‘Star Trek: Starfleet Academy’
I'm not sure I can cope with bratty star fleet cadets getting into some sort of whizzo idea of the week. Red squad all over again. Teen angst mixed with Starfleet doesn't exactly add up to me. If there is none of that "messing about" then it's going to be "well today's training mission is x", quite dull. If every training mission goes wrong then how does that look for the academy.
I'm also slightly bothered after Lower Decks as to what they think that sort of age group is like. We'll find out soon enough.

Oh I get it. Even though in general I do like the Valiant episode, the Red Squad part of it drives me up the wall. I have love hate relationship with that episode. Especially mini blonde bitch First Officer.IanKennedy wrote: ↑Sat Dec 21, 2024 6:58 pm I'm not sure I can cope with bratty star fleet cadets getting into some sort of whizzo idea of the week. It just bothers me so much. I mean Nog alone outranks everyone there and they should know it. Otherwise they woukd have real uniforms on and not Red Squad ones.
