Would Starfleet have a special forces kind of thing going on?

We've seen Starfleet's idea of SF - it involved reassigning the CO, CMO and tactical officer of the flagship in the middle of a border crisis in the sector said flagship was meant to be defending.

We really don't know. It seems like standard Starfleet officers do that kind of stuff you'd normally have special forces do.

Indeed. But remember, the MACOs were rolled into Starfleet with the formation of the Federation.

And that's not a problem. The problem is not having specialist to do that job. Will you ask McCoy to repair warp engines or La Forge to do heart surgery?
