Most folks around here have heard about what a huge slobbering fan of Garth Ennis I am. Even though I always thought his stories would translate well to a screen of one size or another, all we've had so far is the Keanu Reeves-fuelled abortion Constantine and the slightly-better but short-lived Hellblazer FOX series. Well, AMC stepped up to make the immensely twisted and disturbing - but utterly phenomenal - Ennis/Dillon comic Preacher into a series.
Surprisingly, AMC did something almost unheard-of in such a situation - they enlisted Ennis and Dillon in a production capacity. The result - with the help of some great casting - is a show that, even though I've seen all of one pilot episode, which comprised some very basic background and little actual plot motion, I am excited to continue watching (and I'm pretty damned jaded.) Of course I doubt AMC will air anything as darkly mind-twisting as Ennis' comic, but I think that the atmosphere will persist.
Anybody else check it out (or familiar with the comic?)

Is it possible to broadcast all the horrible things that happen to Herr Starr?

Not on basic cable, nor the things that were implied to have happened to the armadillo.Nutso wrote:Is it possible to broadcast all the horrible things that happen to Herr Starr?

Re: Preacher
I tried to watch episode one, but I just couldn't do it. I guess the horrible special effects of the opening sequence were supposed to be some sort of throwback or something? But they just looked cheap and tacky to me. And it didn't much improve from then on. I gave up about ten minutes in.

Yep, he was in the pilot.Nutso wrote:What about Arseface? Can that be shown on basic?
GK - that was a gag, you're missing out if you let that cause you to shun the rest of the series (or even the rest of the pilot.)

Re: Preacher
I enjoyed both seasons of Preacher. It was a rough go at first, but it really started getting interesting. I felt the same way about Dirk Gently, so incredibly strange but in a way that made me want to see what on earth would happen next.
