The three you've fixed are hardly a statistically-relevant sample, seeing as the only ones you'd have to repair are necessarily exclusive of any control sample. Do you have actual quality statistics in the form of defects per 1000 pieces within three years, or something like that?

I know that Vista has been found to kill hard drives. When I get home from Vegas I'll get a lot of sources that say so, based on their personal experience and all that, I can't now because the internet doesn't like being used all that much in the hotel. However, the Dell is much more documented, that I can find thousands of sources, plus they are overall more expensive than a machine that has the same specs as them if not better, which automatically makes them worse, IMO.

Being overpriced compared to other machines of equal capability and similar or better quality is one thing; I'm talking about the issue of build quality for which I'd need to see statistical evidence, rather than a bunch of anecdotes, to say "yea" or "nay."

That I can find as well, they do use inferior parts. As I said last post, can't get the info now, but when I get home I will definitely find the information.

Ironic, that they are one of the most reputable and reliable makes over here IIRC. Although I'd always go acer anyway.

I'm a fan of HP myself. Just out of curiosity, does anyone have any recommendations for the best laptop that's rugged enough to handle a little rough treatment (or at least, not 100% cautious and proper treatment) and still somewhat comparable to a desktop replacement model?

I cant speak for that too well, but I throw around my Acer netbook and its never broken or scratched/etc. However a larger laptop will likely need to be given proper care and attention.

Most laptops are pretty durable, and then replace the hard drive with an ssd and it'll be extremely safe. Although that's extremely expensive. The newer ones in the toughbook series are good too if you like mountain climbing with you laptop.

I only found out recently that my best friend was pregnant a while back. Thats bad enough at 15 or so, but it appears that shes had a miscarriage, from what the doctors have said. Bad day, bad day.

Holy Sh*t - bad day indeed.
But I can't throw, I throw like a geek!

I don't want to sound insensitive, little bro.....but this is the kind of thing I've learned to take the long view of. While I never in a million years wish harm on any mother or unborn child, those of a spiritual bend may see something like that as gods will, especially if she wasn't nessessarily ready to become a mom, which at 15, most girls really aren't.

No, she isn't. that moral "displeasure of the mother vs. health of the child" battle has been running round my head a big lot. It was accidental of course but still. Perhaps divine providence, perhaps just fate. Either way, i suspect it might be for the best.

Sorry to hear it, man. I have a few friends who went through similar problems in their teens, and whether it's better in the long run or not, that still hurts. And will keep hurting.

Not only that, but the perpetrator and her are having an extremely rough patch which simply exacerbates her...low moods.
EDIT: And her grandfather just died.
