In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

Everytime I say the U.S. should develop a stronger train network, I get the (stupid) reply that "it won't work, car is such a part of American culture", which I think is bullshit.

Just with the example above, it's pretty clear why trains would work so well in the U.S.. You have a highly mobile workforce, but you can't always afford to move around by settling. Nor can americans afford those 100 miles car trip to commute.

Train, I believe, is the U.S.'s future when it comes to commuting, or even maybe for trans-country transportation alternative to the airlines.
besides, dads car is hardly an ideal element of American culture. It's a diesel.

As to train structure, it simply isnt practical for a person in dads position because of the children he has to lift and shift. Or occasionally has to. He might be called upon to lift a child seized by social services from one foster carer to another etc. its not practical, never mind safe or legal, to transport them via public means. Besides, most of the UK's little villages are nowhere NEAR big enough to warrant a train network. AND trains are more expensive on average.

Well, it looks like my mom has suffered a nearly complete liver failure on top of everything else. I was told this afternoon that I may have to decide whether or not to let her die. The doctor says that there's a chance that she may pull through if they can cure the massive infection she has, and get the fluid out from around her lungs, but it's a slim chance at best.

I told them that if there's any chance at all, we're to take it, and that no one but me will decide if it's time to let her go.

Dear Lord. I'm so sorry, Pres. I can't imagine what you're going through, much less having to think about that decision. If you need to talk, lemme know. In the meantime, I'll say a misheberach (prayer for the ill.)

Chirst. Sorry to hear that, Tsu. Here's hoping she pulls through.
