I agree with the 7. Frankly I'd even have been fine with a 6. It's a decent movie, its a fun movie, its just a movie that could have worked just fine with no connection to Trek what-so-ever.

I agree - it succeeds at being fun and entertaining, but as a piece of science fiction it's just too riddled with absurdity and silliness to be taken seriously.

An excellent review. I too agree with the 7. It was a good movie, but the plot was also pretty stupid.

I agree with Lazar - it was good for a handful of yuks, but didn't really add anything to the franchise. And I apologize in advance for those who will be upset by this, but I found Chekov's injury/near-death scene to be maudlin rather than dramatic.

I doubt you'd find many people who could argue that it wasn't terribly serious. Face it, most people who love it to death are not hard core Trek fans and aren't likely to be hurt by you not liking it.

Most of the movie's pretty lighthearted. Even Chekov's near death scene.

What I liked about this film was it wasn't meant to be a normal trek film. It was made to be fun, funny and silly. The whole film is a WTF ordeal, not because of mistake but of intent. Hell, you don't even have to know the first thing about Trek to enjoy this film.

I like the 7/10 score. I myself would have given it an 8/10. Saving the 9/10 for TUC.
