I am obviously not a first-hand expert on sainthood (in more ways than one... ) but I do have a Catholic wife and an ex-nun for a sister-in-law. Obviously three miracles or divine epiphanies must have occured to St. Jerome - that is a fundamental necessity of beatification - but I believe he was considered at all for the Vulgate. Early Christians obviously would not have minded his ridiculous misinterpretations of the Old Testament, and what he did was nothing less than make the Bible accessible to all of Europe where before, it was accessible only to a tiny fraction of the clergy and educated elite.

Of course there are the pre-requisites of having three revelations, miracles, epiphanies etc(which have to be 'witnessed'), and no doubt that jeromes' opiates for the masses, was of impact to the church, in terms of accessibility and making religion less of an elitist institution, but surely there would have been objectors, such as those cardinals descended from jewish stock, or who choose to emphasise the jewness of christ 'yeshua' in the various synods.............?

Well, there were dissenters in every step of building the Church, but the process was based on majority rather than unanimity. And I think an undercurrent of anti-Semitism was not only overlooked but tacitly encouraged in order to separate early Christianity from any preceding religion.
If you look at early Eastern liturgies, rather than the revision of the liturgy of St. John Chrysostom, you will see that they highlight very markedly the role of the Jews in the condemnation of Jesus. This is one reason that the allowance made by Pope Benedict for Byzantine-rite churches to use the older liturgies is being decried by supporters of John Paul II - they say that it very possibly can burn many of the bridges that John Paul II worked so hard to build.

Okay, the briefing is now up. Since Metalhead is now dead, we are one person short. If anyone else wants to join up, now's the chance.

Remember you can post in the time period before that post. An option that I don't think has been explicitly used by anyone as of yet.

Hmm, shouldn't Ensign Munro now be Lieutenant Munro? After all, he's now head of security, having him as an ensign doesn't really fit.
If no one has any objections, I'll promote him quietly in my next post.
