Interesting. I'm getting some post-WW2 Germany vibes, what with the CU being divided up amongst the conquering powers.
I was definately thinking post WW2 Germany.

that multi-ship fleet is similar to what I was thinking for my series as well. :)
I like the idea of a multi ship fleet because you don't have to magically fix everything at the end of the show. If an away team brings back the local plague to their ship, you can let several of the senior staff die, then deal with the reactions to the deaths and the resulting promotions and transfers to give the ship a full staff. Or you could have a ship be destroyed, and deal with how to fit the survivors into the crews of the other ships. Nothing would have to have hero protection.

I think the biggest downside would be dealing with a large cast, both the cost and getting everyone enough screen time that people would care about the characters, and the amount of set space that would be needed to show the interiors of multiple ships. I actually think that the CGI wouldn't cause much of a problem, look at how many ships were in the DS9 fleets.

pretty much exactly what I was thinking...and it'd be a new side to Trek too, if we have scenarios where things can't be fixed and the other Captains/Fleet Admiral has to make the tough choice to let a ship go down.
In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

Actually, based on an idea in...i think the "which starship would you choose" thread, instead of the Frankenstein fleet, a MASH-based Star Trek series on an old under-powered Constellation Class starship trying to make its way in a Miranda's world. (Whomever I just stole that phrase from, I give you due credit in acknowledging that I stole it )
You have permission to use that phrase -waves some weird sceptre thing that looks like a sliced off bit of a bike-

For screen time all you'd have to do is make the character interactions of quality. G'Kar, Dukat, Lando, Weyoun could all speak worlds with just a few words. Choice picks on what they say, when they say and most important being why they say it. Troy was in every sceen for the first season of TNG yet was mostly worthless. Doctor Crusher, even though not my favorite, had far far less on screen time but from minute one you knew what she was about. She spoke very openly and always on topic.

A few powerful words can raise up a man's heart more so then a thousand ranted.

"To the brave. A few words are as good as many."
"Marines, this is our line."
"Eat well for tonight we feast in hell."

Food for thought if you're putting together a new series with a large cast.
