Yeah - you have to suspend derision for SFX that are current with the series - plus Jung had the right of it; I don't think that this was one of his official theories, but "big exposed fangs = evil and scary."Cpl Kendall wrote:No,I prefer the older Gorn. It had a charm about it and felt evil.

Oh, I agree completely that you got a far better feeling from the TOS gorn, the writing in that episode was great. That's something ENT will never beat. No,I prefer the older Gorn. It had a charm about it and felt evil. The CGI Gorn was just like every other CGI prop, shitty. I'd use the word soulless but I'm an athiest.

I merely prefer the look of the ENT Gorn, to the TOS one, not the writing.

I too am a fan of TOS, its my favourite series.
As for the look, well, that's simply subjective.

I though the TOS one looked and acted crap. But I find most of TOS crap.
A guy in a rubber suit walking around really slowly going GGGRRRRRRR is not scary or doog writing.

Nothing it will never come. Death before defeat. I don’t bend or break. I end, if I meet a foe capable of it. Victory is in forcing the opponent to back down. I do not. There is no defeat.

You can't judge it based on the quality of the SFX (or lack thereof...) - I enjoy watching the original "Dr. Who" but I think we can all agree that the SFX were actually painful to watch. A "guy in a rubber suit" was the norm for that ype of FX at the time.

Sure you can. When something is so bad it takes away from the viewing pleasure it becomes destructive to the show. You can't judge it based on the quality of the SFX (or lack thereof...)

See I have the opposite opinion, I think the classic Gorn was part of the charm of TOS and the CGI Gorn was another sign of the utter tot that was ENT. In other words I derive pleasure from the classic effects but I cringe at the new ones.Teaos wrote:

So you believe that the ep should never have been written, the idea thrown away entirely, because it was the sixties and the FX weren't up to your standards?Teaos wrote: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I dont know what life was like in the 60's but I believe that was about the best they could do. Thus when people watched it they wouldnt have thought "You can do better" Now how ever I know things can be much better and thus find the crappy suit and acting destructive to the episode.
George Lucas knew he didnt have the tech at the time to make the first 3 star wars movies so he skipped to the middle three. So it would seem that, yes you can just skip something if you cant pull it off well.

I liked both ENT and TOS Gorn. It was cool that the Gorn weren't just generic evil aliens, there. They had a reason for attacking Cestus III and the Gorn Captain was pretty smart.
