Although the Borg in FC had DID have the TNG feel to them.........they felt ominus.
They say that in the Army,
the women are mighty fine.
They look like Phyllis Diller,
and walk like Frankenstein.

I'll agree with that. Although they felt more... ominous to me. :P

I still reckon in First Contact that they could have just sent Data and Worf down there alone to Die Hard the buggers.

And how come it took so long to assimilate Picard, yet later on they could assimilate you in minutes using nannites?

Maybe they enhanced their assimilation technology in the interim.

Maybe Picard/Locutus was a special case? Then again, relatively long assimilation times may not seem practical to us, but the Borg may not care about how long it takes as much as we would so long as it doesn't impede the rest of their operations. They just might not have felt that it was worthwhile to do the same thing faster (drones don't seem to be in much of a hurry, walking around in Zombie-fashion as they do)... until something changed.

Good point. Also, Picard mentions in FC that the creation of Locutus was a special case, not a typical drone assimilation, and the processmay therefore have been quite different.

Wasn't Picard the first human they assimilated? They'd probably take their time if that was the case, so they didn't accidently kill him.

If that were the only consideration, I don't think they'd be too careful. Plenty more where that came from, and all that.

Perhaps the first human-Borg we saw on screen, but they may have assimilated humans on one of the colony worlds along the Romulan border they visited first. When were the Hansons assimilated?

Not by a long shot - the Hansons were assimilated at least a decade earlier.

That would be an incredibly innefficient way of doing it, though. Better to take a little extra time, to ensure all your captives survive, thus giving you even greater knowledge.

Ah, I'd forgotten about that.
