Quantum Tunneling Weapon

NotesImages
Universe Name : Prime Timeline
Weapon Name : Quantum Tunneling Weapon [1]

A quantum tunneling device was stolen from the Daystrom Station was used as a weapon on N'Talus Prime in 2401. The device was used to destroy the Starfleet recruitment centre in district 7. The remains of the building where transported to a region just above the city and dropped from there onto a populated area of the district. [1]

Typically quantum tunnelling operates on sub atomic scales, allowing particles to enter the nucleus of an atom without overcoming the energy well, which acts as a barrier to entry. Instead the particle "tunnels through" the well without passing through the space in between. This technology allows the quantum effect to operate on a macroscopic scale, to devastating effect. A major technological achievement of the time. [1]
