The Vezda were a malevolent non-corporeal life-form who had been imprisoned on Vadia IX in a dimensional prison. In 2261 a Federation / M'Kroon investigative party uncovered the prison leading to the escape of one of the lifeforms. It took possession of one of the team members Nurse Dana Gamble. [1]

Having been transported back to the USS Enterprise the Vezda took over full control of Gamble and was able to kill more than one Starfleet officer before being recaptured. [1]
