Notes

The Hirogen use these vessels for hunting their prey, [3] and Voyager has encountered them several times. [4] They are relatively small for the distances they cover, and usually seem to carry a crew of only one or two Hirogen. [3] Although apparently not warships as such, the vessels are well armed and armoured. They are not a match for the Intrepid class unless at least two or three join forces. [5]

Voyager has established that these vessels use monotanium in their hull construction, and have a dicyclic warp system. [6] Their layout is fairly conventional, with an engineering hull flanked by two nacelles and a primary hull in front. There is a sublight impeller at the rear of the engineering hull and secondary impellers at the rear of each nacelle. The nacelles themselves have six warp coils each, with a bussard-style matter collector at the forward end. They are protected by an armoured carapace. The primary hull has a combination sensor and weapon array in the bow. Aft of this is a bridge unit located on the dorsal surface, flanked by structural hull reinforcements. The aft of the primary hull mounts weapon turrets, while the short connecting neck between primary and engineering hull has a sensor array and defensive shield emitters on it. [7]

The overall design is relatively compact, presumably to make it robust in the face of enemy fire.

The Hirogen ship was seen in several of the Voyager episodes featuring this species, and seems to be an all-purpose armed spacecraft. Relatively few details are canon, but in "Prey" Tuvok confirms that their ships have monotanium armour and a dicyclic warp system. Since the Hirogen communications array is powered by a a quantum singularity, it's possible that their ships have the same power source. However, this seems unlikely to me and personally I would bet on some form of Matter/Antimatter or other total conversion power system.

All of the 'backstage' details of the design come from schematic views of the ship published in "Star Trek : The Magazine". This source is generally based on material from the creators of the show and can be regarded as fairly reliable.
