Notes

The ship known by some as Astrovore was also known by other names, such as "Asaasllich, Destroyer of Worlds". The Klingon's knew it as "Chach-Ka, The Annihilator". Even the Gorn considered the ship to be crewed by monsters. It was renowned for destroying planets and ships that it encountered to scavenge their resources. [1]

In 2261 the USS Farragut was on a planetary survey mission to Helicon Gamma, when the planet was destroyed by Astrovore. The resultant destruction caused massive damage to the Farragut. Leaving it almost adrift in space. They crew put out a distress call and the USS Enterprise responded. Upon arrival the Astrovore attacked Enterprise and drew it in to their massive cargo hold, via the entrance port which was constructed to look like a giant spike toothed mouth. Many tentacles on the outside and inside of the ship would attach to the target ship and instantly disrupt their power systems, rendering their weapons and engines useless. The Farragut was left alone as it was considered too damaged to be of any use to the scavenger. The Astrovore them left to head to its next target Sullivan's Planet. [1]

A skeleton crew from the Farragut worked with an away team from the Enterprise to restore power and weapons systems and took chase after the Astrovore in an attempt to rescue the Enterprise. Having successfully overtaken the Astrovore, James T. Kirk and Spock developed a plan to confuse the Astrovore into using its own systems against itself. After some slick manoeuvring and emergency jettisoning of its own nacelles the Farragut succeeded in getting the Astrovore to disable itself. [1]

With the Astrovores system down the Enterprise was able to break free from its restraints and using some unconventional technology was able to navigate out of the belly of the beast. The USS Farragut was then able to use its photon torpedoes to destroy the enormous ship. [1]

On close inspection of the wreckage the Farragut was able to identify the core of the Astrovore as a human ship called the XCV-100 which was launched from Earth in the aftermath of World War III. Historical records showed that the ship had lost contact with the Earth soon after launch and was presumed lost. [1]

Bearing the flag of the United States of America and carrying a crew from around the world their intent was to attempt to find civilisation outside of our solar system and take refuge there to enable humanities survival into the future. Somehow in the intervening 200 years that mission has become corrupted and the ship ended up as a pirate vessel and was greatly modified over time. At the time of its destruction the Astrovore has a crew complement of over 7,000 people. [1]
