During the Lutani - Kasar war the Lutani setup the Metamorphosis Program on Tychus-B. The aim was to transform Jikaru into weapons to use again the Kasar. To this end the moon was isolated within an orbital containment field and a lab established on the ocean surface. Part of the modification was to fit the Jikaru with a neural dampener. A special headset that could be used to target the Jikaru and cause it to attack. [5]

Without knowledge of these issues, the first modified Jikaru was to be transferred to Lutani VII by the USS Enterprise in 2261. The transport ran into difficulties when the neural dampener was damaged, causing it to attack the scientists working on the project. [5]

While attempting to recover the Jikaru the Enterprise crew discovered that eh Jikaru was sentient being and in suffering with the Lutani experiments. Captain Pike discussed the issue with Starfleet command and received authorisation to put an end to the Metamorphosis Program. Tychus-B was quarantined as a sanctuary for the Jikaru. [5]
The Wierd Planet [6] This Delta Quadrant world existed in a state of extreme temporal flux as a result of the subspace particle field produced by its tachyon core. The world had Gravimetric readings similar to that of a collapsed dwarf star. It also resembled a quasar in that it had a rate of rotation of approximately fifty eight revolutions per minute. The name was suggested by Naomi Wildman. Her initial suggestion was "The Weird Planet Where Time Moved Very Fast And So Did The People Who Lived There".
