Unfortunately this didn't work and Thad passed away. Troi and Riker remained on the planet with their daugher Kestra. The planet had a weekly passenger service, which operated from Infinity Lake Spaceport, however, independently operated ships were a rare sight. [10]
In 2399, The Artifact, a disabled Borg Cube operated by the Romulans, was located less than 40,000 light years from the planet. Hugh used assimilated trajector technology on The Artifact to transport Picard and Soji to the planet, where they met with Will and Deanna. As this would have rendered the Nibirans extinct, Captain Kirk chose to intervene to avert the eruption and prevent the disaster.
