Orsak [1] was the Vulcan Science Minister in 2258 in an alternate timeline created by Nero. He was impressed by Spock's academic record, but confused by his application to join Starfleet. [2] Orsak's [1] implication that Spock's mother's human heritage was a "disadvantage" he had overcome, ultimately, caused Spock to reject the offer of a place in the academy and join Starfleet. [2]
