As a Vice Proconsul, M'Ret was one of the highest ranking members of the Romulan government. He was unhappy with the repressive regime on Romulus, and spoke out against some of the harsher policies. Fearing arrest, M'Ret decided to defect to the Federation in 2369 along with his two top aides. He succeeded with the assistance of Ambassador Spock's underground movement and Counsellor Troi. [1]
