A Starfleet Academy cadet, Riley joined in 2370. His number was C-95304699427 and he specialised in tactical operations. Riley led Red Squad, an elite formation at the Academy. In 2372 he sabotaged Earth's power grid as part of Admiral Leyton's attempt to force the President into tightening security against the Founders. [2]In 2373, Shepard was assigned to a training mission aboard the Defiant-class USS Valiant. When the ship was stranded behind enemy lines and the officers killed, Shepard was granted a field promotion to Lieutenant by the Acting Captain, Cadet Tim Watters. He served at the helm during the ships continued mission in Dominion space. Shepard was killed when the Valiant was destroyed in battle with a Dominion battleship. [1]
