Commander Pelia

Universe : Prime Timeline
Name : Commander Pelia [1]
Species : Lanthanite

Commander Pelia was a Lanthanite and as such had an extremely long life span. She was part of a group of Lanthanites who lived undetected on earth [1] from the time of Pythagoras [2] until at least 23nd century. [1]

In the 2022 Pelia was running an antiques and curio shop in Vermont named "The Archeology Department". She was visited by La'An Noonien-Singh and James T. Kirk, who had time traveled from different alternate versions of 2259. They were looking for a way to detect a cold fusion reactor. She gave them a divers watch from the 1980s. It had phosphorus hands that would glow in the presence of tritium, allowing the reactor to be detected. [2]

She lived through World War III and later witnessed the launch of a ship that carried the "best of humanity" in search of a new world. Not long after she saw First Contact with the Vulcans. She was later to encounter the ship which had been greatly augmented, when it destroyed a planet that the USS Farragut as studying. The USS Enterprise was captured by the ship and nearly destroyed. [3]

By mid the 2200s she had been an instructor at Starfleet Academy and was later assigned to Operations Support Services as a chief inspector of the fleet. During one such inspection aboard the USS Enterprise she discovered a plot by Spock and other senior officers to fake a warp core breach and steal the ship. She assumed that since Spock was a Vulcan he must have a good reason for it and assisted in the theft. She later found out that there had been a secret distress call from La'An Noonien-Singh. Which lead to the discovery of a plot by a Klingon faction to continue the war with the Federation. After helping avert that disaster she noted that monotony seemed in very short supply on the USS Enterprise and agreed to serve as its Chief Engineer. [1]

When Ensigns Brad Boimler and Beckett Mariner accidentally travelled backwards in time to 2259, Pelia gave Boimler advice on how to return to his own time and not cause temporal alterations. [4]

Pelia once suggested that Uhura transmit a piece of music into a subspace fold they were investigating. In doing so she caused a quantum uncertainty field to be created. That had the unusual effect of causing the crew to break into song during periods of heightened emotional stress. [5]

During the Gorn attack on Parnassus Beta, Pelia was reunited with Montgomery Scott, one of her former academy students. He was the sole survivor of of the USS Stardiver. She discovered that he had produced a transponder that caused the Gorn to ignore human life signs. She was displeased that he had failed to document his work making it difficult to reproduce. [6] Later she faked an attack by the Gorn to frighten him into remembering how to make it work, noting that he was far more creative when under stress as he was more likely to take risks. Using his invention they were able to effectively cloak the ship from the Gorn. Simulating a coronal mass ejection and sending them into an extended hybernation period. This allowed the ship to rescue the Parnassus colonists and landing party. [7]

When Scott joined the Enterprise crew Pelia would often send him to briefings with the senior staff as she disliked attending them. [8]

When an invasive species, the Vezda, possessed Nurse Dana Gamble, Pelia shot him with a phaser set to kill forcing the creature out of his body. Pelia told M'Benga that Gamble was already dead and described the lifeform as being pure evil. [9]
