Mother to James T. Kirk, [1]Winona Kirk was a crew member on board the USS Kelvin. [2] She was on the ship in 2322 whilst pregnant with James. [1] When the ship encountered the Romulan mining vessel Narada Winona was one of 800 personnel evacuated in shuttles whilst her husband George remained behind to hold the attacking Narada off. She gave birth to her son as her shuttle escaped the ship. Winona had time to inform George of the birth of his son before he rammed the Narada, destroying the Kelvin. Winona lived on Earth, in Iowa, where she eventually engaged in a relationship with another man whom the young James Kirk did not get on with. [1]
