Klingon knives

Many times in the earlier seasons Odo said weapons weren't allowed on the prominade and even had trouble with this when the Duras sisters showed up. But in later episodes Klingons had weapons, like when Quark accidentally killed a klingon, or when that one shapeshifter killed a Klingon who was thought to be grabbing his knife or disrupter pistol. Is this another case of the writers not paying attention?

Trek writers will ignore anything in the name of the all powerful PLOT!

Either not paying attention or knowing of the rule and purposefully ignoring it.
Although in-universe, how many Bajoran conscripts could really take a Klingon's d'k'tahg from hium against his will?

Rules are ment to be broken. There are always exeptions to rules.

The Klingon who managed to stab himself attacking Quark probably slipped through the security scanners, since they seem to operate by detecting the power output of an energy weapon, not as metal detectors.
Later, they were there as Federation allies rather than simply visitors, and so may have been allowed to hold on to their weapons because of that.

I'm not so sure about the first one, Odo is pretty smart about that kind of thing. The second one is more reasonable though.

Odo can't be everywhere - he relies on the scanners to pick up most trouble, and if the scanners are incapable of detecting knives an similar weapons then there's not much he can do about it.

Maybe knives were allowed and the error was in the early story stating they were not.

Maybe it falls under the whole 'cultural item' thing the Feds never protest against?

Maybe Odo was just too conscerned with getting laid to bother worrying about knives and such. He really loosened up after getting a piece the first time.

Good point, Rochey. I haven't seen a Klingon come on to the promenade with a bat'leth, but the dak'tagh is more a sentimental, ceremonial weapon. It's not really supposed to be used all that much, at least, not as many times as we've seen it used, but that's just another case of writers' stupidity.

Did that klingon die in Quarks' bar, wasn't it in the habitat ring.

No it was Quarks, which is on the prominade
