SFDebris: The Most Toys

Better than average review this week - Chuck tends to produce good stuff when he's got a clear concept to get his teeth into.

Good episode. Saul Rubinek is a great actor.

Seconded. He really sells the character, and he and Brent Spiner work perfectly together in their scenes. This is one of my favorite Data-centric episodes, and frankly, one of my favorite episodes of all 'Trek. Chuck nails many of the reasons why I like it, especially the scene at the end, when Data clearly had pulled the trigger on the Veron-T. Data had made his decision, and only pure luck saved Fajo from being quite dead.kostmayer wrote:Saul Rubinek is a great actor.

I especially loved the scene at the end where Data goes to taunt him in his cell, whilst denying deriving any pleasure from it (the lying fecker)

Saul's style of acting strikes me as odd sometimes. Don't know why though because it is rather entertaining.

Lets say at this moment, it's not, so Data can feel it. Okay?Tsukiyumi wrote:Is satisfaction an emotion?kostmayer wrote:I especially loved the scene at the end where Data goes to taunt him in his cell, whilst denying deriving any pleasure from it (the lying fecker)

Yeah. And Data earned that satisfaction.

Absolutely. He's the reason I gave Warehouse 13 a chance.kostmayer wrote:Good episode. Saul Rubinek is a great actor.

Re: SFDebris: The Most Toys
I've long been of the opinion that Data was well on the way to developing emotions without the emotion chip. This episode being one of the key ones where logically there's no real reason to go down there. Much like his attachment to many of his things. It's purely an act of satisfaction, to rub Fajo's nose in it.Tsukiyumi wrote:Is satisfaction an emotion?

Was he developing emotion or just getting better at emulating them?
What does defeat mean to you?
Nothing it will never come. Death before defeat. I don’t bend or break. I end, if I meet a foe capable of it. Victory is in forcing the opponent to back down. I do not. There is no defeat.

Like the Replicants in Blade Runner? Designed without them, but they developed them on their own?
