Is Game of Thrones the most boring and overrated show on TV?

Sorry... but I just fished episode 4 of season 2 and... if it gets good somewhere can someone tell me where so that I can just skip to that point? :bangwall:

Spoilers ahead (but then, if you are reading a thread about a show you should expect that...)

Season one, well... sucked. It was slow, boring and uninspired. For the setting, breadth of characters and the production quality of the show one would expect something good, but... MAN is the story boring. All there is is insanity (potentially spawned by incest) and incest. The show started with a rather cool section of some creature/men killing a group of regular men... then we never see them again. Talking, talking, incest, talking, incest, incest, talking, talking... then the only two interesting characters (Bean and Momoa) die? What the frak?!?!?! Then DRAGONS are born /end season! You gotta be fraking kidding me!!!

Season two... four episodes in, four hours of dialogue. Maybe what, 90 seconds TOTAL of action worthy of the story setting (swords, dragons, etc) in four episodes. The rest is dialogue. zzzzzzz.... Opp, witchy is preggers and had a smoke baby... /end episode. Ugh! Well, if they pick up the smoke baby cliff-hanger like they did the dragons I am going to have four more episodes of dialogue.

Dinklage is becoming interesting, but then he doesn't have any real competition from the rest of the characters/cast.

All I keep hearing from people is how great this show is. What am I missing?

If you are expecting blood and fights non stop like Spartacus then it isn't for you. The show is more politics than swords and bloodm

Non stop, no. But when you air something like the first 5 minutes of the entire series... then just become hour after hour of dialogue... your went off the rails at some point.

No, this is incredibly on the rails. That's exactly how the books are.

Game of Thrones are perhaps the most loyal adaptation of a book series I have ever seen. The first season and first book is practically line for line, scene for scene.

Sorry, if you don't like the show don't watch it.

I am curious about that myself. Wonder if they will stick to it.

Hence the reason I took it out of my queue. There are a few popular shows that I do not like... but this one is so mind numbingly BORING that I do not understand why anyone finds it interesting.

Don't watch it then. People enjoy the other stuff in the show.

People enjoy many shows that other people do not enjoy. It is that simple. People find Dexter to be a good show, I don't care for it so I don't watch it. Tru Blood is another example.

Right. I'm a huge Dexter fan. Hated the Sopranos, though; a lot of people loved that show.

I was a HUGE Sopranos fan, and not just because of the references to my neck of the woods. What made you hate it?

I gave it a good shot; watched seven episodes. In that time, they did some business, Tony's mistress caught on fire and Tony cried to his therapist. And that's about it. Maybe one guy got shot in a ten second scene; I don't recall. Jim thinks GoT is boring and nothing happens? I can't think of an episode that didn't move the plot forward; a lot of them have some great swordplay/murder/action, and at least every episode has great natural nudity (not a fake boob in sight). Maybe those episodes of The Sopranos were moving the plot forward, but if they were, it was slowly, and I found it uninteresting. Or maybe I just couldn't bring myself to care about the problems of some scumbag mobsters.

Jim, if you think Game of Thrones is boring, for God's sake stay away from The Sopranos.

I didn't intend to say that there was no story... it is just possibly the most boring show in the history of television. It is just talk, talk, talk, incest, talk, talk, 5 seconds of action, talk, talk, talk, incest, talk, talk, talk, talk, incest, talk, talk... repeat.

It is like an actual game of chess being compared to most sports. It obviously takes a lot od skill to win at game/match of chess against a "pro"... but would it actually make an exciting television series. No. If you are looking for nudity... then just admit it to yourself and get some porn. I watch television for escapism and entertainment (save for a rather large amount of documentaries that I watch). Game of Thrones fails BIG TIME at point #2.

The most boring show in the history of TV.... got it. Don't watch it then. I mean isn't this trolling now?

Not every popular show will sit well with what you think is a good show.

I mean what the fuck? What the hell do you what us (the people who like the show) to say? See my point?

For example... I can't for the life of me figure out how anyone could have watched The Sopranos and called it boring. It was a character drama rather than an action series, so if that's what you were expecting based on the fact that the setup was based on the mob, then you'd have been wrong. There was plenty of action, but that wasn't the point. Likewise, if you were looking for a swashbuckling opera from 'Thrones, the you'd likely be disappointed. I can't comment further because I won't watch the show until I've read the books and there are some things higher up my list just yet.
