Firefly; Pretty damned good

Been watching Firefly the past two weeks, up to 'Trash' right now. Not my all-time favorite sci-fi show, but getting up there. Not sure about watching the movie, since I already know Wash dies in a way that is pretty much guaranteed to piss me off. But the show so far is pretty very great.

My all time favorite show, period.
Also, loved the movie.

"Well, here i am." Jubal... I think he survived. Had his ship on auto-pilot methinks.
Anyway... pretty very great. Still not my
all-time favorite, but still pretty damned good. Yet another show that makes me wanna punch Fox execs over.

#1 - Wash's death will piss you off no matter what, because it's impossible not to like Wash. However, if he had to die, it was a pretty good scene IMHO.
#2 - It doesn't matter what you predict or how correct you are; Firefly is one of those examples of writing that hold up no matter how many times you've seen each ep or know what's coming.

Hmm, all right. I'll watch the movie next week on vacation. But no promises I'll like it.

Movie was an excellent extension of the TV series... My prediction is: You WILL like, and maybe even love, the movie...

I've never watched it.
The series summaries and general setting never seemed to appeal to me.

The series setting is pretty well-produced for what it is, but certainly isn't ground-breaking. The show wins on writing, not on atmosphere.

"What's that make us?"
"Big damned heroes, sir."
"Ain't we just?"

Huh I always though people liked it for the setting. As all the fan reviews go on about the western in space and a toilet on ship, which while interesting aren't enough to make me watch a series.

Actually, I'd get the impression that it was an RPG group, on a spaceship. You have a leader, a couple fighter types (one of which is min-maxed), one pilot, a tech, a couple Charisma specialists (Inara and Shepard), and a medic who brings his own adventures with him. Heck, there
is a Firefly RPG.
They try to get enough money from one job to make it until the next job, while trying to stay close to their morals, avoiding the main authority, and other worse criminals.
I got one friend to watch it by letting him watch the first episode, and then keep on watching until he felt like turning it off. I told him if he did that, I would never bring it up again. When I woke up later, he was putting in disk 3 (each disk had 3-4 episodes on it). He said the ending of the first episode (
Train Job) was what sold it, as Mal's reaction was exactly what he would have done.
