The Borg as a sub-plot?

I just watched the very first episode of Deep Space Nine again (must be the tenth time I've seen it). At the very beginning, when Benjamin Sisko is in the escape pod and he looks out the window just in time to see his starship destroyed, that was a powerful image. I'd rarely call scenes from any Star Trek series "powerful", but that's what it was. It made me think, would the Borg have made an excellent sub-plot? Nothing major, just one or two episodes, or a two-parter. I'd have loved to see the crew of Deep Space Nine battle it out with the Borg and it would bring Sisko face-to-face with the nemesis that ended in the deaths of his friends, comrades, and wife all those years earlier. Of course, I don't think such an episode should occur immediately. Maybe somewhere near the end of seasons four or five would be good.
Thoughts?

IIRC in the very first DS9 novel, the Borg made a brief appearance. They tried to pass through the wormhole while it was suffering some sort of instability, and the cube was ripped apart. But I'm just as happy the Borg didn't show up. We got to see the more traditional enemies of the quadrant, as well as some badguys that were designed to be fought in conventional means. Doing the Borg AND the Dominion War would have just been too much IMO.
Of course, seeing the Jem'Hadar and Borg slug it out might have been nice.

I'm detached from unofficial Star Trek literature. There are no local stores that sell it, and I don't have access to a credit card to order them online. That being said, there are a few novels I'm interested in.

It's been close to 20 years since I read that book, but I seem to remember Odo found another changeling, and Odo was shifting into some "different" things. It was a bit silly.

There is no "official" or "unofficial" literature, save fanfic. All the novels are non-canon.
Anyway, it might have made a nice departure from the mainstream of DS9, but I didn't miss the Borg. I thought part of what made DS9 great was its divergence from the rest of 'Trek, and the inclusion of the Borg would have minimized that.

Not to mention given them a chance to ruin them before Voyager.

Except that they wouldn't have.

Maybe, maybe not.

You know they'd have had a scene where "The Sisko" tears a Borg apart with his bare hands.

We could have had an episode where they send a fleet after the cube from First Contact. Worf was on the Defiant, so that would place it within DS9. Maybe have it where the cube pops a small Jem'Hadar base (it needed repairs, and the J'H base was useful refined materials), then slams through a Federation fleet.

When they say ruin the Borg maybe they meant leaving the Borg in a pile of smoking ruins...
