Trek XI wins an oscar
I hadn't realised until a friend mentioned it, but Trek XI won Star Trek's first ever oscar, for Best Makeup. This is the first time any Trek movie has ever won an oscar.
Worthy winner or not? It was up against non sci fi movies... I always wonder how you compare such radically different makeups.

As the friend who mentioned it <ehem>, I'm quite sure it was the bite-mark on Nero's skull that clinched the Oscar

I still want to know just what bit him!

Are we sure it was a bite? You must remember "Not everyone keeps there genitals in the same place captain..."GrahamKennedy wrote:I still want to know just what bit him!

I recall something about a cut scene where Nero and co. escape from Klingon prison; I think that's where he got the bite mark.GrahamKennedy wrote:I still want to know just what bit him!
I wonder if it was a Targ or a Klingon that bit him, though?

...or Iman...
Though if she's biting you, it hardly sounds like punishment.
At least, not the bad kind.

Still it's nice for such Trek to finally get some higher recognition. I always thought the sound track for STTMP was beautifully done and should have received some recognition when the movie was released.GrahamKennedy wrote:I hadn't realised until a friend mentioned it, but Trek XI won Star Trek's first ever oscar, for Best Makeup. Well, if nothing else, this shows what Abrams has done for the franchise. This award is an indication of XI being a movie called Star Trek, not "just" a Star Trek movie (at least to the non-Trekker public.)

Wow, didn't hear about this. (I don't follow hollyweird. )
I think its perhaps a tad patronizing/goofy to get an Oscar for makeup, but an Oscar is an Oscar, and for Trek, I'll take what I can get.
