Akira, where are the tubes
Akira, where are the tubes
I'm having a debate with someone (deepcrush actually) on where the tubes on the Akira are and which way they're facing.
This sight lists them as 7 forward in the weapon pod, 3 forward below the forward shuttlebay, 2 port, 2 starboard and one below the deflector dish (could be forward or aft facing)
I believe that's an accurate quote from the designer. But it would be easy to get forward and rear shuttlebay backwards due to misspeaking or a misprint.
All the pics I can find online only either show the akira from above or are too grainy (or have shadows) to tell if there are torp lanchers around the deflector and which way they point.
Anyway have some solid info/remember seeing some of those launchers fireing. I want to say I remember an Akira launching a pack of torps from the main hull at the borg cube right before it gets blown up, but it's been a while.

I think the stats page in DITL got it right. Its what I'm using for the Daystrom. It makes sense for the majority to face foward. It delivers a huge amount of fire power directly infront of it.

Nothing it will never come. Death before defeat. I don’t bend or break. I end, if I meet a foe capable of it. Victory is in forcing the opponent to back down. I do not. There is no defeat.

QT's werent around when the ship first came into production and they probably havent had the chance to be refitted yet. QT's seem to be pretty rear so they only give them to some ships.

True, but the Defiant was an important ship stationed at a crucial strategic location. The USS Average Joe would be unlikely to get preference over such a vessel.

Could be a power consumption thing. I mean even the Sov doesn't run all Q torps.
Maybe they had to choose between 40 P torps and a dozen Q's and figured the photons would be better. A defiant doesn't have room for any more launchers. And a Sov doesn't really have many good mounting points for a turret, so might as well make the most of the one your have.
EDIT: just a quick reminder I was hoping to get more info on Akira tube locations.

Well, not an Average Joe class, but it would depend on where the ship actually is stationed and how old the ship actually is that determines wether or not it would have such technology.
