I had no idea...

I just recently found out that Majel Barrett-Roddenberry, the actress who played Lwaxana Troi, was also the voice of nearly all the computers through out the various trek shows and movies.

It got me thinking, what else might the average trek fan not be aware of? Anyone here know of anything else you think might make someone go " I had no idea..."?

Christian Slater's mother, Mary Jo Slater, was the casting director for Star Trek IV and many many other productions (so many that I used to think it was the name of a company) - hence his appearence in Star Trek VI.

Really?! You didn't know that the computers' voices were Majel's? She was Nurse Christine Chapel, too.

Here's a couple: Avery Brooks lived near where I grew up in New Jersey, and taught and performed at Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University during and after his stint on Spenser: for Hire. He won awards for his portrayal of Paul Robeson at RU, as well as performing in Othello (with Andre Braugher as Iago) in an incredible performance. I also got the chance to meet him "on the street," as it were, and I mentioned his Othello - to which he told me he was relieved to no end that I didn't mention DS9.

Also - Patrick Stewart is from Thorin's hometown.

Wait, Patrick Stewart is from Thorin's hometown? When'd we find this out? You'd think he would mention something like that...

Heard him speak several times. Unlike Shatner, he's not arrogant. George Takai is pretty much the same.

Wasn't that Star Trek VI? I thought he was the crewman that woke up Sulu when he was in his quarters.

And promptly got his balls cut off by Sulu. Quite right, original post was a typo.

The guy who played Weyoun also played a bunch of other roles throughout TNG and later Treks. His first contact with Star Trek was being up for the role of Commander Riker when they cast TNG, but he lost out to Frakes.

Combs? He had a nice turn as Shran in ENT, of course, but what else was he in?

Does he walk like a crab in real life? :)
