...Q Junior. Probably decided to have a 'joy ride' and accidentally made the star into that Expanding Supernova...

Or a Q on a drinking binge?

Or two Omnipotents fighting INSIDE the star?

Maybe it was a phenomena similar to a supernova, so Spock called it that for ease of understanding. Or something.

That was the only part of the movie that was just plain off to me.

And being able to WATCH Vulcan disintigrate from DELTA VEGA was more on?

But yeah, that's what happens when a Q dies. Galaxy killing supernova. :?

I'm diggin' the "Spock watched it through some device or another" explanation.

Me too, but we didn't see anything. That's the problem. :?

Oh well. Still a great movie. :)

But again, we didn't see what actually happened, we just saw a dream sequence.

The directors have stated in an interview that that sequence wasn't Spock actualy watching it implode in the sky, it was just a sort of representation.

Ok, so regardless of in-movie parts, they actually cleared up most of our questions, that's a good director there.

I can explain it in two words:

Let's face it, we can gripe all we want about the unlikely even impossible event of a supernova threatening the galaxy, but it's not the first time star trek writers have claimed handwavium destructive power from a supernova, think about the TKON empire from TNG, that race could move planets and stars, but a supernova destroyed them. It's science fiction, not science fact. Also, maybe the romulan supernova would create a cascade effect on nearby stars? Who knows, but it was a good movie.

By destroying their home system. Something similar would probably happen to the Federation if Earth's solar system were mysteriously destroyed, given its overcentralisation.
It's science fiction, not science fact.
More like sheer fantasy
Also, maybe the romulan supernova would create a cascade effect on nearby stars?
Not a chance; whatever that was, if it threatened the galaxy it wasn't a supernova, so they'd have been better off inventing a technobabble name for it.
Who knows, but it was a good movie.
Sure it was, but bits of it were fucking stupid - such as the "supernova" nonsense.

Reverse trans-axle elliptical radial post-temporal mono-filament reactionary multi spectral, multi vector ancillary reverse protomatter implosion...TO THE NTH DEGREE! :c

"threaten the Galaxy" could mean simply the peace and stability of the Galaxy by the sudden power vacuum. Or it could mean the star would have a Gama Ray burst which would cause huge amounts of the Romulan Empire to suffer which would threaten the Galaxy for the same reasons.
