TOS Ship Battle: D-7 Class vs Constitution-class

Post by SuperSaiyaMan12 »

Exactly what it says on the tin. Which one is more likely to come out on top, the Klingon D-7 or the Federation Connie?

So equal crew strength, right.

If either ship can manourver behind the other and stay there, either one could win. Though the Connie would seem to have a better time in that situation.

I'm not sure who would win... though I'm going with Connie because the D7 always seemed to be slightly behind.

Connie. The UFP always seemed somewhat ahead of the Klingons.

Though depending on the situation, the D-7 could take it.

Connie. Plot shield = win! Seriously, the Connie was a super-rugged design and UFP weapons and shield tech were always ahead of the Klingons.

Connie, narrowly. Though we really know so little about the D7 capabilities. I'd guess an experienced commander in a D7 could beat a Connie.

Connie, reasonably comfortably. I'd estimate a significant advantage in shields, sensors, speed and agility for the Connie, and maybe an edge in firepower for the D7.

I'd also rate the average Federation Captain probably better than the average Klingon captain, though that's just an impression.

I wouldn't say the advantage is overwhelming, though. A really crackerjack Klingon commander could well have the tools and talent to take a merely average Connie apart.

Aye, a lot depends on the circumstances. Who spots who first? How far away are they initialy? Who has the greater range? Who is the superior captian? What sort of "terrain" is there in the system? Etc.
With the right circumstances, the D-7 could pretty easily kill the Connie.

Connie, by a fair margin. I don't remember the D-7 ever taking on the Connie one on one and winning. The only case I can remember when the D-7 had the edge over the Connie was when E-nil had lost warp power. Even then the Connie took one hell of a beating.

Connie wins again! The D-7 could if it had proper shielding systems, though. I always envisioned that the Klingons' weaponry hit harder than that of the UFP ships. Seems necessary for the race that they are.

I never saw anything to say that Klingon weapons hit harder then UFP weapons. It makes more sense that the Klingons are just behind in tech as such needed larger weapons to equal the UFP.

Like I said, I only "envisioned" that about the Klingons. I just makes sense to me that the warrior race who shoots first, no questions asked would naturally want to outgun the competition, any way they can. Competition in this case being the Feds and their Connies. The saving grace of the federation is that the talent pool they can draw from to man their vessels vastly outnumbers that of a conquering race. The Feds have a lot more to deal with than ship-to-ship combat, so it is natural that they would want to place their emphasis on defense and redundancy in a tactical scenario, versus the Klingons, who just want to kill you in 900 different ways.

With the UFP's apparent advantage in technology, though, a Kilngon disruptor could be "upgunned" and still be the match, not the better, of a Fed phaser.

'Elaan of Troyius'. The Klingons hip does repeated strafing on the E-nil, battering her but not crippling her. They're able to jury-rig after some sabotage and launch some torps. A single one hits, and to quote...

"Damage to Klingon number three shield. Number four shield obliterated. Loss of maneuver power." "He's badly damaged, Captain, continuing away at reduced speed."

Leaves the Connie with a huge advantage over the D-7. No shock. The Klingons have always wanted 2-3 to 1 advantage over the Connie. Now, there's nothing wrong with that. The idea of numbers isn't anything new. Its a very smart move and one normally taken if the enemy is equal or superior to you. Since the E-nil never worried about taking on a D-7 but the D-7s always wanted numbers. I'd guess, on top of the quote from RK, that the D-7 is a ship noted as inferior.

With a cloak and first strike it becomes a lot more even. With a perfect ambush and the first one or two salvos going to the Klingons I'd say they could almost pull it off.

In a fair fight the Feds have it, but there is no such thing as a fair fight...
