8 hours to the Klingon border seems awfully fast. For example, based on the conjectural Star Trek Star Charts, and a top cruising speed of, say, warp 6 (old scale), and without factoring in warp highways, that trip might take half a year. (Although obviously, Trek doesn't often hold itself to strict standards for travel times.)
