Just read the OVEG for this. I'd forgotten all about it until now, but all the memories have flooded back.
Further proof that Brannon Braga slept through his biology classes.

God I hate that episode. But I like the quote of
huge phallic shape pierces the wall and ejaculates all over Neelix.

thats just

There was one highlight in this ep that seems pretty meaningless, until combined with the recent talk of how stupidly-equipped UFP personnel are for combat. When Janeway raided the locker for equipment, she came up with, among other things, a good old-fashioned ka-bar. No matter what kind of super-iso-mega-ray gun you have, a simple combat knife is always a good back-up.

Why nobody else ever had one ever is a different point...

I don't think I'll ever forget Macrocosm; the hilarity of Action Kathryn vigorously stabbing a giant virus is etched into my brain. The episode could have been salvaged if it had been conscious of its own absurdity, but no, it was just so damn serious about it all.

And there's the problem. It wanted to be Aliens, but the subject was just so damn stupid that it could provoke nothing but inadvertant laughter.

Welcome to the site, by the way.

Oh lord, that one. I've been trying to forget that episode. Normally I can just let some of the stupid crap slide and just try and enjoy the show but the basketball sized "viruses" were just stupid. Braga's name on an episode is a kiss of death to me.

Very true. A good knife is key for survival, both in close quarters combat and surviving in the wild. In that Voyager ep. when everyone got stranded on that planet it would have been neat if several former Maquis whipped out knives they had kept on their person, quite against regulations. :)

Hell, it would have been good if they'd exhibited an ounce of common sense during that episode.

Now now Rochey, this is Voyager. Common sense is an illegal practice, punishable by banishment from the franchise. You should know that.

Which explains why we could hear the Doctor scream from the vacuum of space.

Macrocosm is right there with Threshold for some of the worst of Voyager, heck the worst of Trek period. It's not as bad as Threshold, it's like Threshold lite. All the stupidity, half the soul crushing despair.

At least Macrocosm didn't reveal the inspiring message that we are a few millenia away from evolving into newts.
