First reviews are IN and it ROCKS!
PROBABLE SPOILER
Has anyone seen the extended "disease and danger" clip of Kirk, McCoy and shuttle? It's on yahoo, and can be found Here. I'm fairly certain that Karl Urban is McCoy. I could see this guy on the orbital office complex telling the transport chief "send these guys first and let me know how this thing scrambles their molecules."

"All this has happened before --"
"But it doesn't have to happen again. Not if we make up our minds to change. Take a different path. Right here, right now."

Spoiler...
So apparently Nero's wanktastic ship is even worse than the Scimitar, rather than a planet killing radiation gun they have a planet killing Blackhole generator.
IMO Planet killing guns = fail
Although there is at least a little bit of canon behind this, arent Romulan ships powered by a singularity? Maybe they just manipulated this into a weapon somehow.

What does defeat mean to you?
Nothing it will never come. Death before defeat. I don’t bend or break. I end, if I meet a foe capable of it. Victory is in forcing the opponent to back down. I do not. There is no defeat.

Vulcan is destroyed leaving Spock the last Vulcan. Read it on IMDB.
I really wish I hadn't read that by the way. Hope it's not true.
There's a guy answering spoiler questions from only those who ask to be spoiled on IMDB.

Re: ST:XI Spoiler Thread (READ AT OWN RISK)
Ultimate one upman ship. If a ship can destroy a planet it can destory a starship fairly easily.
Which means you need either:
1) Convoluted plot or 7 fucktones on luck to beat it
2) Equal and opposite firepower ie a massive fleet, which is cumbersome to use day to day.
Planet killers are a cheap way of adding drama to a movie/episode.
EDIT:
HIGHLY doubt that spoiler is true nutso.
How does destorying Vulcan destroy all Vulcans? Are there no Vulvans on ships or other planets?

Hm, so it was Vulcan being destroyed in the trailer, as some of us speculated.Vulcan is destroyed leaving Spock the last Vulcan. Read it on IMDB.
That said, he can't be the last Vulcan. We know from ENT there are a few Vulcan colonies elsewhere, and presumably there'd be plenty of Vulcans on other UFP planets.
Or perhaps the weapon is just unsuited for ship-to-ship combat.Ultimate one upman ship. If a ship can destroy a planet it can destory a starship fairly easily.

True, but when done well they can be pretty good.Planet killers are a cheap way of adding drama to a movie/episode.

For example, it may require a relative stationary target to lock onto.Or perhaps the weapon is just unsuited for ship-to-ship combat.

Or maybe the ship's too cumbersome to aim the gun at the target.

Agreed, it would be like a 16 inch gun taking out a speed boat.Rochey wrote:Or maybe the ship's too cumbersome to aim the gun at the target.
BTW I had to watch McCoy in the new clip again. Had my wife watch it, I told her it reminded me of her when we go flying together.

It generates a blackhole, get the thing anywhere near a ship and its fucked.
You dont have to be hit by a nuke to be killed by it.

Perhaps it is setup so that it requires a lock on in order to activate. A safty system of sorts.
