And in FC we see Borg survive space just fine. And where exactly did we see Borg die from space exposure in VOY? The only thing I can think of is Scorpion part II where they airlocked a bunch of Borg, but we never saw them die, just kicked off the ship.
Thorin wrote:What?! You do realise that artificial gravity can counteract millions of g's when the ship accelerates? Thus must be able to produce that gravitational strength.
Even if that weren't possible, instead of cranking up the artificial gravity - just turn it off in the section of the intruder, accelerate the ship to, let's say, a million miles per hour, then clean.
Firstly due to the two drive systems used in trek the acceleration is not as great as it at first seems.
Second, as Staplic pointed out gravity plating is not the dampeners.
We have heard them specificly refered to by their different names. There is Zero evidence to support your claim they are the same thing.
Thus my inital point stands that it is unlikely they can be cranked up to massive amounts.
If you make it so the Gravity plating can go up to 90, or 47 million as you claim, what happens when there is a power surge? or a malfunction? You entire crew dies instantly and chances are massive areas of your ship get destroyed.
But if it has a upper limit of say 5ish, then it can malfuntion with no serious effects, sure people will fall over and maybe break something but not be pancaked like your million force Gravity plating.

Irrelevant. Acceleration beyond 10
g is enough to kill a man.
Second, as Staplic pointed out gravity plating is not the dampeners.
Irrelevant, they both create or counter acceleration. Acceleration is gravity.

Nope.

Inertial dampers can go that high, they create gravity. The end.

Irrelivant? the fact that they are two seperate systems ment to do two seperate things is irrelivant... rrriiiggghhhtttt...
I never said the gravity plating couldnt be made to be super powerful, just that they
wouldnt make it so that it can be that powerful.
As I already pointed out, if you make it so that it is mechanically (or what ever) possible for it to go that high, you run the risk of it accedentally doing that and fucking your ship and crew over.
Thus not irrelivant. In fact it is highly relivant.
Irrelevant, they do the same thing.
No, no they dont. They may use similar techniques but they do vastly different jobs.
Nope
Yip
Inertial dampers can go that high, they create gravity. The end.
There is black, there is white, there is this thing called grey, look into it.

Let's not have warp cores and things then which could explode and kill people? Oh... Wait...
They do the same job.
No, no they dont. They may use similar techniques but they do vastly different jobs.
They both create acceleration. They do the same thing. Simple concept.

They both create gravity. Why are we even discussing this? It is empirical fact, they both create gravity, they do the same thing. The end. There is no shades of grey in this.
And (which I did notice you failed to reply to), you can just turn off the inertial dampers in a section, and accelerate the ship. Even relatively small acceleration will kill them an in instant (say... 100
g?)

If the Imperials had tossed even a standard frag in there most of those Rebels would be dead Deep, they were so tightly packed. And the Rebel troopers didn't even have grenades on them. The only visible grenades where on the stormtroopers and even then I mentioned they could have used other types.
It is possible that most would be dead. It is also possible that one of the Rebs would dive on the nad. There were a number of halls and walls for the Rebs to take cover. Plus, even if other grenades weren't visible that doesn't mean they aren't there. As the Storm Troopers with a strong odds to your favor. Stopping inside a tubed area long enough frag out could cost you your advance. Plus at such short range your enemy could just throw it back. A cook would still risk your getting shot before you can release. Superior numbers and fire gives you enough of an advantage that you don't have to risk explosives near the hull. Once you hold the breach you can nad all you want. You're not going to have to worry stopping in the open. You'll have a covered position and superior numbers to push the advance.

In the ep where we were introduced to the Borg Children. The Doctor check a number of the Borg and declared they died by exposer. In FC it's possible the Borg prepared themselves in some way.

Keep in mind what the Imperials' objective was: find and capture whoever has the plans. Killing whoever knew where they were accidently by tossing a grenade next to where he's standing is going to make a certain dark lord of the Sith quite pissed off. Although it would entail greater casualties, sending in swarms of troops with orders only to shoot whoever resists and capture the rest would be the best plan from Vader's POV.

WRT the artificial gravity, it doesn't take very much to kill a person. As Thorin pointed out, 9G's would be sufficient. But it doesn't even need to kill them, it just needs to flatten them to the ground and prevent them getting back up. 3 or 4 G's would probably be enough for that.

In general, explosive devices near an area where decompression could kill you is a bad idea. While the Tantive was presumably inside the ISD's bay at that point, there was probably a standing SOP do not use explosive devices in naval boarding actions.
That said, there seemed to be some sort of sci-fi-style flash-bang used to blow the hatch, judging by the Rebs averting their eyes, squinting, etc. However, the bottleneck still looked like there should have been more stormie casualties at first.

Aye, they should have been dying in droves. My only suggestion is that they're "rent-a-cops" as Deep suggested earlier, leading to them having shit accuracy.

Well, they weren't named characters, so the "stormtrooper effect" must have applied.
True, though - they could have very well been Organa household retainers, rather than Reb troops. That would have lended more credence to the plausible deniability which Leia professed to Vader.

They were pretty well mixed between old and young. No marks of rank nor the ability to shot. They should have killed off hundreds of troopers if they'd had even a single day spent in training. Most of them looked like they could barely keep from pissing themselves.

He must have survived through blind fucking luck, cause those household troops were probably some of the worst in sci-fi. Even the Necromongers could shoot better then that.
