No better motivator than putting a noose around your own neck, I always say.

Yeah, always did call the tie the yuppie's noose.

I was being sarcastic. We have a "discussion" about having to wear ties with the upper bosses from time to time. They feel it is more professional and more productive, etc etc etc. I am against wearing one. People used to consider wearing powdered wings professional as well... doesn't mean we should start doing that again...

Oh... er, hang on a sec, I've just got to go put this wig away.

In all seriousness, though, what's wrong with wearing a tie? If you don't have a professional environment in your office, then I understand - but if you do, what's the problem?

It makes me feel... claustrophobic? Not sure if that's the proper term, but I feel stuffy and like the walls are closing in when I do.

Semi similar. I do not like having the top button buttoned much less a tie on. I also usually do not button my sleeves at the wrist. It does not take long for me to start feeling... uncomfortable.
We have “business casual” here. Slacks and button shirts.

Hmm. I never minded a tie myself. But, if business casual is the accepted dress code, then I don't understand the push for neckties. (Although it wasn't too long ago that "business casual" meant sport coats or blazers and tie instead of British-tailored suits.
)

I rarely where a suit and tie. But I am one of those people that actually enjoy wearing the suit.
