Re: Delta Mission Comments and Discussion
I've always imagined them as the Valkyrie's from ST: invasion (Ps1), so I sorta ran with that.

Sorry, guys. Busy couple of days, and a bit of writer's block - my post is coming together in pieces.

I've just had time issues. I'll try and bang out a Paladin post today.

Mikey......I think that was one of your best posts ever, in Alpha, Beta, Gamma, OR Delta. Writers block my ass.
Bravo-Ocean-Ocean-Mike indeed. The ship would certainly go BOOM.
I think the USS Daystrom has the most awsome command codes in Starfleet.

I was listening to "Touch of Grey" by the Dead yesterday... that's why I ended up using the old radio alphabet for the boarder defense protocol.

Has the Akira class Daystrom started to approach the end of her lifespan?
Is it time to replace her with a newer model? I had a concept for a new ship, tell me what you think. A GCS with a mission pod on top, and a "through and through" hanger like the Akira on the underside of the saucer.
What do you think? We can call it the "Andor class".

...In concept I sorta like it, but I don't think it quite fits chronologically somehow. By now even the Galaxy's are getting pretty damn old. I'd rather see a purpose built carrier.
Is this an end to Mikey?

Re: Delta Mission Comments and Discussion
IDK, according to the DITL "Starship Service" chart it's not appreciably older than the GCS or Nebula, certainly not old enough to be retired. That doesn't mean you can't play around with a new design, though - I just don't think a new design would be based on a design that's as old as the one it's replacing.

That's fair. However, I can't imagine whoever it is that would be in command getting a GCS. Maybe a refitted Nebula with a hanger/weapons module.

Besides.....this is Trek. We could kill Mikey off today, and next mission clone him. Actually, that sounds like something Holmes WOULD do, that sonofabitch. He wouldn't even let the man rest in peace.

Re: Delta Mission Comments and Discussion
About the new design, like I said, it was just something I was scribbling on a doodle pad when looking at a pic of the GCS and Nebula class side by side. I've always liked the GCS saucer seperation for a number of reasons. A landing ship for ground forces, a safe hanger to launch from, so on and so forth. But, I'd wanna "tuck" the neck and secondary hull in a bit to pose a smaller target profile, and not expose the nacelles AND the damned torp magazine to enemy fire.

Now, off too MS Word to start three posts for Delta, and one for Enterprise. BTW, remind me we really should change the name of that RP.

If we were doing a new design I'd see something like a squatted Sovereign with a through deck, like a Sovereign/Akira. If it were an old design, I can't see it going on a GCS myself, I naturally think of it going on a Nebula.

Or a gutted and Re-armed Olympic. They have pretty huge shuttle facilities with the big doors and the space for evacuation units. Just needs more weapons.
Re: Delta Mission Comments and Discussion
Reliant, give me some insight into your Cardassian characters personality. Mikey, give me something on Grr'elk too. I'm floundering here.
