Is it just me or do good guys always have a technological advantage of somesort over the bad guys. I cannot be the only noticing that trend.

I wonder if we'll ever see these ships again. After Nemesis's new ships I doubt that the guys would settle for anything not as flashy.

Don't forget that the D'Deridex is the size it is simply because the Romulans wanted it to be that big. There is a huge amount of wasted space - before we say "that ship is outclassed by a Fed ship of the same size," we should remember that we are not comparing USABlE space.

Maybe they decided that was the size they wanted. They then had two choices. Make a bunch of it pretty much empty with just crew quarters and the like. Or pack it with weapons and stuff. The second option makes it powerful but also takes lots more resourses limiting the number they can build.

There has also got to be a "critical mass" of sorts as to how massive a ship can be for a given nacelle/engine size.

For a single set of engines. However multiple engines could increase size potential. The Borg seemed to do that with their non-centralized system approach. Multiple small warp field projectors could manipulate the warp field, extending the field to larger sizes.

The Akira has a partial intergration as well but it is still seperate.

"Integrated design" simply means that the nacelles are part of the same ship. I'm not sure I understand your question; a given amount of space is a given amount of space, no matter what directions in which you measure.

Okay, in seriousness..

I have always thought the Steamrunner was a damn cool looking ship. I know that Graham places it as sort of an older, weaker design but of course "really" we really have no clue what this ship's role is or anything about it. Regardless of registry numbers or where along the timeline we "guess" this ship was created, to me it looks like one of the most sophisticated ships in Starfleet-- easily in the same style vein (angular, sleek, coloring) as the Sovereign but of a different shape and design direction. I was bummed out that in Star Trek Armada (I and II) they made it a fictional "artillery" ship, I would have much rather had it with traditional phasers and torpedoes.

In my "mental image" of the Steamrunner, it's a very quick ship with a respectable armament for its size and a fair amount of automation (the relatively small hull and the whitish coloring somehow just reminds me of the Oberth, plus it looks cutting edge so I just picture it having a lot of self-running systems) making it highly self-sufficient for long duration deep space missions. Mmm... regenerative shields. Okay, back on topic... full on, deep space exploration.

The Sabre-class ship is cool, mostly from the SCE novels.
