Add a horsehair crest, and they'd be Corinthian helmets. Do they bend up the cheek-pieces when the owner is killed?

I think their helmets are made of rich Corinthian leather.

Why am I getting a "cadet takes command" vibe from this?

I'm quite curious as to how Kirk is going to go from the Academy to some sort of acting captain. Based on the clips that we've seen, it seems like Kirk might "graduate" from a black cadet uniform to a yellow officer's uniform at the end.

I keep pointing this out, but no one seems to get it: the black shirt he's in? Everyone else has one on as well. It's the undershirt to the uniform.

Sorry to have given you that impression, but no, I already knew that. I'm just speculating that officers get the colored shirt that goes over it.

So everyone else is an officer, but Kirk is still a cadet? :?

I'm guessing he loses the overshirt at some point, and doesn't have time to go put on another one.

The conversations evolve organically here. :)

I'm guessing he'll get his shirt ripped right before he kills Nero.

Yeah, if it got ripped too early he'd just go all Hulk on everyone and the movie would last 5 minutes.

Well it's just that in every shot (but one) that we've seen, everyone has got the colored shirt on except Kirk. I guess there must be some reason for it.

why does Nero look like that dude from the painting "The Scream"?
In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

I think he looks like a cross between G'Kar and Shinzon (minus the homoerotic attire).
