It's been a while since I've had a float, or an egg cream. Dad used to make them at home, but it's been a while (he once even had an ice cream maker and made his own ice cream once or twice).

Don't be - if you're not over 30 and from the NY metro area, there's a good chance you'd never have encountered one. If you get the chance, though, I highly recommend it.

my first visit to NYC i went to china town, and some guy started blabbing off on a radio in chinese, the shop keeper hilariously apologized, locked up the store for about 5minutes, then offered us all a free baseball cap. Turns out everytime the cops drive by on patrol he locks up, or something! also i never encountered egg creme. :O

Mmm, Ben & Jerry's, and Haggen Daz, too. Better than Baskin Robbins, IMO.
