That just assumes its the photons that power him up. If its just distance than it wouldnt matter. Though he would be a little weaker during might time since that side of the Earth is further away and in winter as the orbit is at an extreme to.

Didn't you know he's a solar battery, not a solar engine? Andit takes a while for him to exhaust his energy?
