"Shut up!" Diona snapped. "I'd have taken your head off already if you hadn't...helped. What was it that warp monster said to you? 'turned her own gift against her'?"

"The frak should I know what she said? I was a bit busy trying not to die at the moment and I don't speak demon!"

Diona stepped forward and jammed the pistol into the side of Mir's face. "Do not try to bullshit me! I knew it was a mistake to trust you, I should have had you shot..."

"Diona, that's enough," Venus interrupted. The Sister was back on her feet, one arm thrown around Cyrine's shoulders for support. The stump of her arm had been hasitly bandaged, the injury oozing blood through the gauze and wrappings. The Hospitaller stood at Venus's other side, looking annoyed and worried at her patient and superior officer's refusal to lay down.

"Did you miss the part where I shot it in its FRAKING FACE!?" Mir snarled as the pistol jammed cruelly into his cheek. Mir grimaced, raging silently as Venus stood up and spoke.

"I did not," Venus answered, and Mir felt the pressure of the barrel against his face lessen. "Nor did I miss the fact that you broke the creature's barrier. I do believe I owe you my life."

"Venus," Diona started, but she didn't have a chance to say more.

"Diona dear," Venus spoke right over her. "I seem to have dropped my sword. Be a sweetheart and fetch it for me, will you?

Diona started slightly, and cast a glance over at where the weapon lay, still gripped in Venus's armored fist. Her mouth opened, but she closed it without saying anything. She just nodded, put up her pistol, and slowly approached the severed limb.

Mir rubbed the side of his face, sure there was a permanent impression of the plasma pistol. "Yeah well, ya'll helped me out." He carefully eased his shotgun back onto his shoulder. "What was that thing?"

Venus just looked at Mir for a long moment. Though she was white as a two day corpse and coated in sweat, her eyes were clear and focused, even if they were creased at the edges with pain.

"I believe..." she said slowly. "You might be better able to answer that. I too heard her talk about a 'gift'." She eyed Mir's shotgun. "I do not know what kind of ammo you have in that thing, but when you fired it..." A slight shiver actually ran through the Sister. "The taint of it, I could practically taste it. It was nearly pure warp essence."

"I dunno what they were," Mir said. "I found two shells in an apartment block a kilometer or so from here. A lot of dead orks, in wierd ways too. I blew one's head off and the thing still didn't stop. The apartments were all fraked up. One had some chick claiming I was her husband, another...," he shuddered. "I dunno, it was just pure wrong. I figured something was messed up in the building. When I tried to leave is when I met the ork that wouldn't die. I had to blow up his power fist's cell to kill him. In the bits that were left I found those shells. I didn't know what they were but ammo's ammo right? Well I guessed there was something off about them but I didn't know what, when I saw you girls... umm, ladies, I know your rep," he said, looking pointedly at Diona, "so I hid them. When that thing showed up I figured I got nothing to lose so I loaded them up and gave it a shot. Figured I was dead if it failed, and I was dead if I didn't try so why not? Right?"

"Just the two?" Venus asked. "I don't suppose you would be so kind as to prove that?"

"Search me, that was it and if what you're saying is true then I'm glad they're gone."

"Yes, I think that would be a good idea." Venus nodded to a pair of Sisters, who proceeded to strip Mir of his weapons, armor, and gear, and give everything a close inspection. They also turned out his pockets and forced him to take off his shoes for inspection.

Finally the older of the two, a combat scarred vetern, turned to Venus. "Nothing, ma'am," she reported simply.

"If you want a cavity search all I ask is it's not her," Mir says jerking his chin toward Diona.

Venus's lips quirked in an almost smile, and then her face was impassive again. "Return his belongings," she told the Sisters, who looked ready to protest. "We're leaving," she announced. "This location is no longer secure enough."

Buck tossed the worthless items about. "AHHH! No good tro'fees! No good!" Throwing one of the bodies out of the way. Buck sat on a outcrop. "No good for me."

As he sat and sulked, Buck became aware of a slight electric humming sound, coming from a dark corner of the room. Squinting in the dark, he made out a small object floating in the shadows, which eventually resolved into the form of a servo-skull as his eyes adjusted. The skull's own eyes, green tinted lens, stared back at him.
