While ablative armor is certainly useful for combat, I can't see it being overly effective against the anomily of the week in general. Shields still provide protection across a broader range of spectrums, and can be modified (seemingly at will)

Shields have also been shown to be nullified by the anomaly of the week, and can be brought down or rendered irrelevant through various means.
With armour, there's only one way to defeat it: blast it apart.

The only thing that could completely ignore armor in front of it would be something using the dubious 'Trek-nology of being "out-of-phase," possibly the aforementioned transphasic torpedoes.

Exactly. The vast majority of anomalies that bypass the hull and any armour also seem to have the ability to pass through shields.
