Right. It's not like they might run into some weird wave-front of the week that would require any protection beyond the shields...Mark wrote:If I'm not mistaken, the Vesta class and the Luna class are a return to explorers, and they aren't combat ships. Not ablative armor but Transphasic Torps or improved phasers. Things that should have come along over time but aren't part of the ship.

I wonder if ablative armour is really as great as we think it is... Wasnt there some lines of Dialog in Endgame that the Borg were adapting to it?
How do you adapt to armour apart from hit it harder?
Makes me believe that there is more to it than standard armour.

What does defeat mean to you?
Nothing it will never come. Death before defeat. I don’t bend or break. I end, if I meet a foe capable of it. Victory is in forcing the opponent to back down. I do not. There is no defeat.

First it was Voy so don't take things to quickly. Second, there may be something like SIFs that have more effect on ablative armor.

The Queen, when faced with Uber-Voyager, simply stated "we will adapt", or something to that effect. She never said it in response to any particular technology on the ship itself, merely stating that they'd overcome this new threat to them. And even then it may have been simple empty threats. Short of building better guns, I don't see how the Borg are ever going to "adapt" to armour.

True. The only way to adapt to armor is to build more powerful guns or better AP potential. I'd agree with Rochey that the quote "We will adapt" referenced the new threat level in general, rather than a specific new piece of tech.

While ablative armor is certainly useful for combat, I can't see it being overly effective against the anomily of the week in general. Shields still provide protection across a broader range of spectrums, and can be modified (seemingly at will)

"Adapting" could mean anything, not just the Trek-standard frequency-dependant adaptation. In BoBW the E-D's use of the deflector dish as a BFG was a form of adaptation, and I could see the Borg taking a similar approach to a tough opponent by cranking up the power of a single weapon at the expense of RoF, number of weapons, or burning out the weapon in question (or all three).

I always assumed that she was taking about the Transphasic torpedoes. That eventually they would be able to analyze the effects enough to overcome it's awfencive capabilities.
In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

It just has the Sovereign, Defiant, Prometheus ablative armor, not the batmobile armor.Mark wrote:If I'm not mistaken, the Vesta class and the Luna class are a return to explorers, and they aren't combat ships. There is not a problem in this world that can't be solved without the proper application of a sufficient number of thermonuclear ordnance.

Welcome.
With armour, there's only one way to defeat it: blast it apart.
Shields have also been shown to be nullified by the anomaly of the week, and can be brought down or rendered irrelevant through various means. While ablative armor is certainly useful for combat, I can't see it being overly effective against the anomily of the week in general.
